This policy covers all Officers of Administration, Officers of the Libraries, and Non-Union Support Staff employed by Columbia University.
Who should know This Policy:
All Columbia University Officers of Administration, Officers of the Libraries, and Non-Union Support Staff should review and understand this policy.
Departmental Administrators and Human Resource managers should review and understand this policy as well as refer to the Manager Toolkit located on the Columbia University Human Resurces website.
Columbia University is required to comply with federal laws and regulations concerning verification of employment eligibility and associated record keeping for employees hired to work in the United States. Employees are legally required to cmplete the I-9 Form, including providing required original supporting documents to establish their identity and eligibility to perform work for an employer in the United States.
Verification of employment eligibility must be made within seventy-two (72) hours of employment. This law applies to both foreign nationals and United States citizens.
Anyone with questions regarding employment and/or identity verification, or any Columbia representative responsible for I-9 authorization who would like additional training should contact their HR Client Manager.
